Admissions
Admissions To The Reception Classes
Children usually start school during the school year in which they will become five, although they are not legally required to start school until the term after their fifth birthday. In order to try to give children the best possible start it is important that they do not enter formal full-time education before they are ready.
We have a two-stage admissions procedure and children having their fifth birthday between 1st September and 31st December will join the school in the September of that school year. Younger children born between 1st January and 31st August will join in the January of that school year.
Our admissions policy means that children living within our catchment area (Strensall village and the army camp) are usually assured of a place in school. Children from outside the catchment area may be offered a place in school if there is one available.
The school's admissions limit is currently 75, this is the maximum number of children who should be admitted to a year group, although this may be exceeded to provide places for children from within our catchment area as long as there is sufficient room in a class.
It will help our planning if parents would register children for entry by the end of February before they are due to start school.
Older Children Joining The School
Children living in the school's catchment area are usually assured of a place in the school. Families moving into the area will usually register children for places before their move, although we realise that this is not always possible. We welcome visits from parents who are considering sending their child to the school. This provides a valuable opportunity to find out more about the school as well as to discuss an individual child's needs. Please contact us to make an appointment at a time that is convenient to you.
Starting School
We have strong links with the local playgroups, who provide a good standard of pre-school education. Our teachers will visit these to meet and get to know the children before they join us. Parents will be notified of admissions arrangements early in the term before their child starts school. Children and parents will have opportunities to visit the school and to meet teaching staff.
